THE BAILIWICK OF GUERNSEY'S TERRITORIAL WATERS HAVE BEEN EXTENDED FROM 3 TO 12 NAUTICAL MILES WITH EFFECT FROM 23rd JULY

The territorial seas adjacent to Guernsey, Alderney and Sark have been extended from 3 to 12 nautical miles. The change was made by an Order in Council under the Territorial Seas Act 1987. It has effect from 23rd July 2019 (with some specific savings in respect of the operation of some fisheries legislation) and brings the Bailiwick into line with Jersey, and most other coastal states. The Order was drafted by UK government lawyers and lawyers from the Law Officers' Chambers, following decisions of the States of Deliberation, States of Alderney and Chief Pleas of Sark. Further information is available on the States of Guernsey website here, and more detail is set out the relevant Policy Letter from the Policy & Resources Committee.
